What do you do about Brit families like mine?

Such selfish horrible people, they ped me about as a baby & never make any effort at Christmas or anything, not interested in me at all. As a child I was always beaten up. Now as an adult, my kids see the neglect and don't understand why we're not included in anything. They never invite us for New years Eve or anything. The step family just look after their own & the 'natural' part of the family also just think of themselves. It used to get me suicidal, to see how none of them cared about me. But as an adult, it's like so embarressing explaining to my kids as to why our 'family' are so nasty? What would you do?
